CERN collaboration projects
PastCERN openlab phase-II, security (2006-2007)With the world wide Grid computing activities starting for Large
Hadron Collider (LHC) and increasing numbers of visiting scientists appearing at CERN premises,
CERN openlab formed a industry consortium to study the new cyber threats it was going to face in
subsequent years. Among the participants, two leading Finnish IT Security companies, Stonesoft and
F-Secure were invited to take part in the program as Corporate Contributors. HIP-TEK was
facilitating this collaboration with CERN on-site researcher. More information can be found
here.
CERN openlab summer student program (2003-)Since the inception in 1995, HIP-TEK has welcomed every summer 2-6
summer students mainly from Finnish Universities to CERN. The time is spent in internal and
external projects that can be reported as international training period worth of some study credits
back to the University. When Cern openlab started their own summer student program in 2003, HIP-TEK
began to contribute to their projects by placing few Finnish students there. In the last couple of
years HIP-TEK has also got few European students from CERN openlab to its own projects. Within CERN
openlab summer student program, the students participate in Summer lecture series in Physics and
Computing and few excursion trips to CERN partner companies in the area.
Tuovi (1995-2000)The first HIP-TEK project, Tuovi, started as a collaboration
between HIP-TEK and CERN Engineering Document Management Services (EDMS) group that was responsible
for all LHC project documentation ranging from Technical specifications, Project communication and
Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings. Tuovi project developed Web-based collaboration tool or
front-end to commercial Product Data Management (PDM) systems at the time.
The program, TuoviWDM, served world wide CERN collaborators on-site and off-site. In 2000 the project span-off to Finland, and the company is called Kronodoc. |
